In these hard economic times when we’re worrying about how to pay our bills we usually are not thinking about our charitable donations. In any recession those in need are usually easily forgotten, this is especially true with needy children. At least there is one glimmer of hope, the non-profit group, Bikes for Kids, based out of Salt Lake City, Utah has announced that will give away 1,000 new bicycles to pre-qualified, underprivileged 3rd grade children. This is Bike for Kids fourth year holding this event which has brought so much fun, and fitness, to thousands of children over the years. I’m glad to see that there are still quite a lot of people who are still focused on brining children whose families can’t afford bicycles, a way for their kids to stay healthy and still have fun in these tough times.

Bikes for Kids Utah will also host some fundraiser bicycle rides that will help raise money to provide the children’s bikes, beach cruiser bike, and recumbent tricycles for their giveway which will be held on May 30th. Children from Boys and Girls Clubs and elementary schools from all around the Salt Lake area will receive their new bikes, as well as safety helmets and bike locks, at the Bikes for Kids event thanks to various sponsors. The event will be held at the Intermountain Medical Center parking lot at 9:30 a.m. Saturday, May 30th. Volunteers will give out bikes to new groups of kids every half hour. They will also hold a fundraising ride at 8 a.m. before the bike giveaway to help raise funds for their programs.

“All of the children in our community deserve the opportunity to own a bike,” said Debbie Reid, founder and director of Bikes for Kids Utah. “Our May event will give 1,000 more kids a chance to spend the summer and their whole childhood making memories and being active on bikes. Our mission has touched many lives over the past several years, and we hope it will continue to inspire community action and involvement.”
