The world may have dodged a huge bullet with the recent Swine Flu outbreak that seems to have come to pass already, but experts say the worst of this virus isn’t over yet. Many have died in Mexico where the Swine Flu outbreak originated and a few in the United States with multiple cases popping up around the world. In a vain attempt to prevent the outbreak of Swine Flu the country of Egypt slaughtered almost every pig in their country. But the Swine Flu virus wasn’t as bad as many have predicted. Was it health and government officials over reacting? I don’t think so, if they didn’t react at all the media would be all over them for not doing their job. And if they came out and warned everyone to take preventive measures (like they did) then everyone would claim them of being paranoid.

Many health officials have warned that Swine Flu may make a comeback during the flu season later this year. Are they over reacting or just doing their jobs? It is a known fact that viruses may hide and become dormant in host animals, like swines, only to mutate and rear its ugly head. If we want to prevent another pandemic like the one that struck the world in 1918 which killed many millions of people then we need to be prepared. Don’t go to work, school or public places if you’re sick or many of your co-workers or classmates are sick. Wash your hands as often as you can, and have a few masks prepared just in case. Just because we got lucky this one time doesn’t mean we will next time.
