The best known bicycle rack maker, Yakima, has merged their operations with a privately held company out of Taiwan called Kemflo. They have been supplying Yakima with parts over the past nine year, with the merger deal being in the works for the past nine months. Yakima was previously owned by the private venture Arcapita, but will become a subsidiary of Kemflo and will operate independently.

So who is Kemflo? Well they’re a manufacturer of consumer goods from electronics products to water filtration devices based out of Taiwan. This new merger should not effect the retail operations of Yakima or their management staff and manufacturing operations around the world.

That’s the case with many charities around the nation, well for the first time in over thirty years, the Pan-Massachusetts Challenge has raised less money than a previous year.

The anti-cancer fundraiser charity donated a check to he Dana-Farber Cancer Institute for more than $30 million. That’s quite a bit of money, but the cycling charity usually donates more than that as they saw a 14 percent drop over last year. Found, Billy Starrr said, “I think it’s fairly well known that in tough times, philanthropy is the first thing that goes with a lot of people.”

Bicycles have come a long way from being a simple two-wheeled contraption that got people from point A to point B. They have been infused with modern technology to make them faster, stronger and lighter. Now there’s a bike from the Germany that has incorporated Formula 1 racing technology into a new road bike. Called the GRACE, it features top notch build quality and technology. It is a street legal electric tw0-wheeled road bike that is expected to ship next year.

There is also an off-road GRACE mountain bike as well, with a racing bike prototype as well which is capable of reaching speeds of 44mph. They’re taking orders for its first limited edition GRACE now, with prices starting at €5877 (about US$8737), production time will be about 4 months, customers outside Germany are advised to contact GRACE prior to ordering. Motor liability insurance is likely needed, and a helmet. As the actual number of limited edition models produced will not be revealed to the public and the company reports a lot of interest, the window for ordering (originally set to close on 4th January 2010) could be closed at any time. Fear not though as orders for the second edition will run until May 2010.

Check it out in action below:

I’ve seen special air travel luggage for almost everything, from guitars and guns, what if you plan on traveling with your mountain or road bike? Well then the AeroTech Evolution bicycle bag is for you. The bag is shaped to fit a collapsed bike for travel on airplanes. The bag can hold a bicycle frame along with two detached wheels/tires and pedals. It even has space for cycling accessories as well. You’d probably only want to use this with lightweight aluminum or polymer framed bikes, unless you really have to travel with that steel tank of a bike you may own, just saying.

Honda seems to be on top of new tech with many of their products, well here is what Honda thinks will be the future of motorcycles. Their EV-Club is a small, electric two-wheel drive motorcycle with retro good looks. Honda plans to release their new EV-Cub sometime next year as well. Motorcycles are usually rear-wheel drive, Honda’s new EV-Cub is 2WD (think all-wheel drive in automobiles) which they claim has more stability and traction. Not only is it safer for riders, it is also easier to ride for beginners. It should be noted however, that Yamaha has been working on 2WD motorcycles for quite some time as well. Honda seems to be the first to bring it to market with their electric EV-Cub.

Honda will also be released a cool looking communication system called LOOP, it allows riders to communicate with each other on long rides, this is possible because the EV-Cub will have virtually no engine noise like traditional motorcycles have. We’re not sure how their LOOP system works as it may be a bad idea to text and look at a communicator while riding. None-the-less it’s good to see that a company is releasing a full-fledged electric motorcycle that looks good enough for anyone to ride.
